Stuart Law, CEO at Assetz, comments on the HS3 plans

“The HS3 proposals would be a giant leap towards eradicating the UK’s North/South divide and bringing the top northern cities together to give them critical economic scale. I would like to think this isn't just rhetoric from George Osborne but instead a coherent government strategy that is driven through to conclusion. A suggested potential second Whitehall hub in the North would go further to establish a Northern powerhouse and in turn attract more businesses and bring down the cost of Central Government.

“However, to really get this trans Pennine plan on track, the government should consider looking abroad for investment. The Beijing Construction Engineering Group has already invested substantially in the Manchester Airport City scheme and individual high-net-worth investors are increasingly looking North in the UK for property investment with excellent yields. The recent news of direct flights between Manchester and China further cements the notion of a possible international partnership. However, in the short term, investment in the existing railway is still urgently needed and should not be put on hold while the bigger plan comes to fruition.”
